The 4K4D neural representation is an innovative solution that addresses the challenges faced by previous approaches. It offers remarkable rendering speed while maintaining high-quality results. This breakthrough is achieved through a combination of a 4D point cloud representation and a hybrid appearance model.
The 4D point cloud sequence captures the dynamic scene’s structure, with each point’s position modeled as a learnable vector. A 4D feature grid assigns feature vectors to points, which are then processed by MLP networks to predict the point’s radius, density, and spherical harmonics (SH) coefficients. This approach enhances optimization and robustness.
The hybrid appearance model combines the SH model with an image blending model to ensure accurate representation of the scene’s appearance. The image blending network is independent of the viewing direction, allowing for pre-computation after training, thus improving rendering speed. This model leverages the information captured by input images, resulting in enhanced rendering quality.
Extensive experiments have shown that 4K4D achieves significantly faster rendering speeds while outperforming state-of-the-art methods in terms of quality. With an RTX 4090 GPU, this solution can achieve up to 400 FPS at 1080p resolution and 80 FPS at 4K resolution.
