Researchers have investigated the susceptibility of SLMs to adversarial attacks and have designed algorithms to generate adversarial examples to bypass safety protocols. They have also proposed countermeasures to mitigate these vulnerabilities, achieving significant success in reducing the impact of such attacks.
In particular, the Time-Domain Noise Flooding (TDNF) technique has been proven to be effective in mitigating adversarial attacks on SLMs. It involves adding random noise to the audio inputs before feeding them into the models, resulting in reduced attack success and increased perceptibility of the perturbations.
Overall, this study provides insights into potential weaknesses of SLMs and strategies for improvement, offering practical solutions for safety and mitigating adversarial threats.
