Google introduces image generation in its “Search Generative Experience”

Google’s Search Generative Experience (SGE) now allows users to generate images from text prompts. The feature, launched in May, presents users with images based on their search queries. However, Google ensures that the tool adheres to its prohibited use policy by incorporating metadata and watermarks on the generated images. The tool is currently available only to users 18 and above and is behind Microsoft’s Bing in terms of AI-powered features. Google’s generative AI offerings are expected to expand with the rumored Project Gemini.

Google has launched a new feature in its Search Generative Experience (SGE) that allows users to generate images from text prompts. This enhancement to Google Search uses generative AI technology to present users with images based on their queries.

To access this feature, users simply need to type their query into the Google Search bar. The SGE will then generate several images based on the given prompt. While using Google Images, users may also be prompted to produce images related to their search.

For example, if a user types in “draw an image of a capybara wearing a chef’s hat and cooking breakfast,” the tool will generate images based on that description.

It’s important to note that Google has taken measures to ensure that the generated images adhere to its generative AI prohibited use policy. All images created with SGE will be marked with metadata and watermarks to indicate their AI origin.

At this stage, the tool will not produce images of realistic faces or famous personalities. Additionally, it will only be accessible to users who are 18 years old and above.

While Google is a leading search engine, it is currently trailing behind Bing in terms of this specific AI-powered feature. Microsoft has the advantage of using OpenAI’s flagship models, while Google’s Imagen falls short.

The public rollout of Imagen will continue on an opt-in basis, primarily for English speakers in the US.

This move from Google is aimed at retaining control of the search industry, where Microsoft is its main competitor. Google is concerned that generative AI could impact search traffic, ad traffic, and sales.

If you want to leverage AI to evolve your company and stay competitive, consider using Google’s image generation feature in its Search Generative Experience.
