  • 71% of the US labor market (128 million workers) could have their working hours reduced by at least 10% with the integration of AI tools.
  • In the UK, 28% of workers (8.8 million) could achieve a four-day workweek, and 88% (27.9 million) could reduce their working hours by 10% by 2033.

The research utilized data from the IMF and Goldman Sachs, which indicates that AI can improve productivity in desk-based jobs by 1.5% annually.

Will AI Make a Four-Day Workweek a Reality?

The idea of working fewer hours while maintaining the same output and salary is appealing, but will AI actually make it happen? The increase in productivity resulting from AI handling repetitive tasks is already evident. Autonomy previously published a report demonstrating the tangible benefits of a four-day workweek trial for companies. Out of the 61 participating companies, 56 continued with the shorter workweek after the trial. The trial resulted in reduced burnout, improved staff retention, and largely unchanged revenue.
